One question started this series: what's missing in club volleyball, and what would actually be a great time. From that question, this series evolved.
This day is not about results. It's about discovering, connecting, loving what we do, exploring, and evolving into a positive, inspired athlete. This day is the stepping stone.
Same teammates. Same volleyball IQ. Completely different challenge. Put six-on-six court volleyball on sand and suddenly movement, balance, timing, jumping, recovery and communication all feel different. You have to adjust. Together.
And because there are no standings, playoffs or overall event winner attached to the day, there is nothing to protect. Go for the ball. Try the play. Take the risk. See what happens.
You are not spending half the day waiting around for a game that does not matter. Your team plays four matches against teams closest to you in the OVA rankings. Good teams. Competitive volleyball. Different opponents.
The result still matters while you are playing. It just does not follow you around afterward. Play hard because you want to. Not because your season depends on it.
For 75 minutes, volleyball looks completely different. All 12 teams stop at the same time. Every athlete comes off the sand, and everyone lands in the same space with no net separating them. Welcome to Social Hour.
All with your teammates, and athletes from clubs you normally only see across the net.
You already know how small the volleyball world is. You follow athletes from other clubs. You recognize people from tournaments. You see the same teams all season without ever actually meeting most of them.
Indoor on the Beach changes that. Trade handles. Meet the athlete you have played against three times and never spoken to. Film something together. Find new people to follow. Build a volleyball circle that reaches outside your own club.
Social Hour is supposed to be fun. But it is not filled with random booths just because someone wanted to sell something. The brands, products, services and experiences inside Indoor on the Beach are selected because they can add something to your life as an athlete.
Products you actually use. Things you may not normally get to try in person. People and resources that can help you get better. You get to discover them with your teammates instead of scrolling past them alone. And there is a lot more still coming.
Your whole team stays under one roof. You compete together. You hang out between games. You experience Social Hour together. You meet other athletes together. You leave with stories that have absolutely nothing to do with the final score.
Club season asks a lot from you. This is the part that gives something back.
If this sounds like something your team would want to do, do not wait for your coach to randomly find it. Send it to them, or send it to your team chat, and get your team on the list yourself. You do not have to organize anything. You just have to start the conversation.
